Candidates with Disabilities
This page covers special examination arrangements. If you think that you might have such a requirement, you need to pay close attention to the information below to ensure that your needs are properly met:
- Candidates may require additional time for the test (e.g. for dyslexia) and in this case will sit the UKCATSEN which provides a standard 25% additional time. Information regarding taking this version of the test can be found below.
- Candidates may require a particular test-centre environment due to a medical condition or disability (e.g. for mobility access). Information regarding how you might discuss these requirement with us can be found below.
UKCATSEN
Candidates should choose the UKCATSEN when they book the test if they are entitled to additional time for examinations because of dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, dysorthographia, or working memory deficit. Such candidates are likely to have a written diagnosis and have already been given similar time extensions for examinations at school or college.
If you book an extended test timing slot, you do not need to supply UKCAT with evidence of your medical condition. UKCAT-participating universities, to which you apply, will ask you to send clinical evidence to them later in the admissions cycle. Your UKCAT result may be declared void if you do not present adequate supporting evidence when it is asked for by one of the universities.
The evidence your Universities will request would be a recent diagnosis or report from a qualified medical practitioner or (in the case of dyslexia and similar conditions) a recent diagnosis or report from an educational psychologist registered with the relevant professional body in your country. In the case of dyslexia or similar conditions this report should be dated within three years of your UKCAT test date if you are 18 years or under and within five years of your test date if you are over 18 years.
If you would normally expect to offer different evidence of your condition, please contact the UKCAT Administrator before registering for the UKCAT.
Special examination arrangements
Special examination arrangements cannot be handled by our online registration system. If you have such requirements, please ring the UCKAT Customer Support Centre.
If you have already registered and booked a test date you need to contact us immediately in order that we can consider your requirements. It is possible that subject to your needs your test date, time or place may need to be changed.
If we agree to special examination arrangements then the test centre will be aware of these when you arrive for testing.
