Arrival and Identification

You must arrive at the test centre at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start of your test to allow time to complete check-in formalities.  Candidates arriving late may not be allowed to take the test and will be charged to rearrange their test.

Before you set off for your test, make a note of the Test Centre’s address and phone number and find it on a map using the Test Centre Locator.

On arrival at the test centre, you should present to the Test Centre reception BOTH of the following:

  • a printout of your confirmation email from Pearson VUE
  • one piece of photographic identification from the list below which meets the requirements of the region where you are taking the test

During the check-in process the test centre will take a digital photograph of you for security purposes and you will be given a copy of the UKCAT Professional Examination Rules.  You will sign these to state that you understand them. Please familiarise yourself with these before your test.

Accepted Forms of Photographic Identification

You must bring photographic identification from our approved list.  If you fail to do so you will not be allowed to test and you will have to book and pay for a new test slot on another day.  This may be particularly problematic towards the end of testing when convenient test slots may not be available.  Last year 270 candidates arrived for testing with incorrect ID and were turned away.  Test centre staff have no discretion to waive or vary the identification rules.

The name and date of birth on your identity document must exactly match the name and date of birth you provided when you registered for the UKCAT.  If it does not you must contact Pearson VUE Customer Services at least 5 working days before your test appointment in order that this can be addressed.

Please ensure the documents you provide are originals, current and signed.  If you are unsure whether your ID is acceptable please contact Pearson VUE Customer Services for advice.

Europe, Middle East and Africa

In order to take the test in Europe, the Middle East or Africa, you need to bring one of the following forms of photographic identification to the test centre.  No other documents are acceptable:

  • A current (non-expired), original, signed passport.  This must be signed by the passport holder and they must be recognisable from the photo.  This also applies to child passports.  A child passport will not be accepted without a signature or if it is signed by a parent.
  • A current (non-expired) signed photocard driving licence (full or provisional)
  • A current (non-expired) signed Irish Passport Card
  • A current (non-expired), original European Union government-issued identity card that carries your photograph and signature, issued as proof of citizenship.  The card information MUST be presented in ROMAN SCRIPT as well as the original character set.  For example, a Greek identity card will have Greek characters and Roman characters and would permit candidates to sit the exam.

Alternative Form of Identification (UK Only)

If you are taking the test in the UK and you do not have and cannot obtain one of the permitted forms of identification above, there is a fall-back solution.  Please ask your school or college to attach your photograph to its headed notepaper and include the following text:

"This document is to confirm the identity of our student [insert your name], date of birth [insert your date of birth], whose signature appears below, endorsed with the official stamp of the school [that covers part of the photograph]."

Sample ID

The form must be signed by a head teacher or a senior member of staff and bear the school stamp (which covers part of the photograph).  You must also sign this document.  Please ensure that the photograph used is clear and you can be easily identified from it.

Asia Pacific (includes India and Pakistan)

In order to take the test in the Asia Pacific region you need to bring the following form of photographic identification to the test centre.  No other documents are acceptable:

  • A current (non-expired), original, signed passport

In order to take the test in the USA, Canada and other countries in the Americas you need to bring one of the following forms of photographic identification to the test centre.  No other documents are acceptable:

  • A current (non-expired), original, signed passport
  • A current (non-expired), original, signed photo driver’s license issued by your provincial or state Department of Motor Vehicles

Important Information

If you are refused admission you will be recorded as a ‘no-show’ and will forfeit your appointment and test fee. If you are a ‘no show’ you will need to book another test and pay again.  Please refer to the information on Rescheduling and Cancelling for further details.  This applies in cases of family illness, family emergency, accident, arrest, transport problems and security alert as well as forgetfulness.  It also applies to those who arrive with inadequate or invalid identification.
